What is a Scout Hyper?

As you may have read in the blog article that covers the history of Louie Simmons' Reverse Hyper, he invented it after experiencing a broken back. When he tried doing a back raise in reverse, he noticed that it pumped up his back, providing relief due to the tractioning of the lower back.

The Scout Hyper was created not just for professional sports gyms but also for everyone who wants to own a Reverse Hyper, whether it is for a garage gym, a private gym, or even an office gym. With home, work and light clinical use in mind, it was designed to be foldable and easy to store for those who have limited space.

The Scout Hyper is a reverse hyper that can be folded up and stored or be left out on the floor ready to use. It has a curved pad to limit the friction against the hips making it a comfortable movement to perform. While the Scout Hyper can highly benefit younger athletes and those new to the movement, it works well for elite level athletes as well.

How to Use the Scout Hyper

You will follow the same technique used on the larger reverse hypers to perform reverse hypers on the Scout Hyper. It's important to note that the Scout Hyper should remain stable and not rock back and forth as you perform the repetitions. When adding reverse hypers into your program, you can perform four sets of 10 with 50% of your max squat, or for higher volume, you can perform 3-5 sets of 20-25 with 25% of your squat max. The percentages are general guidelines; if you are new to the movement, start with the weight you can perform correctly.

Scout Hypers

The Scout Hyper is easy to set up, use, fold together, and store. Once the Scout Hyper is set up, follow these steps to perform reverse hypers:

  1. Place the left foot into the strap so it rests against the lower calf and the Achilles tendon.

  2. Place the right foot on the step on the frame lifting yourself up to place your upper torso on the tabletop.

  3. Move your right leg from the step so that it is in the strap.

  4. Begin the movement by driving the heels up and back using a slight momentum on the first 1-3 reps with the legs straight.

  5. As the feet go up, flex the glutes and hamstrings as you raise the head.

  6. Keep tension in the strap as you reverse the movement, letting the feet go down and forward.

  7. As the feet go down in a controlled manner, lower the head.

  8. Then, reverse the movement.

  9. Once the set is finished, the pendulum must be stopped from moving by slowing it down to a dead stop.

  10. Remove the right foot from the straps, place it on the step, and lower yourself to the ground.

Why You Should Purchase the Scout Hyper

If you're looking to own a Westside Barbell Scout Reverse Hyper and want to benefit from its prehab effects and performance improvements, you should consider purchasing the Scout Hyper for three main reasons. Firstly, you'll be supporting the original inventor while also enjoying the benefits of the exercise. Secondly, the Scout Hyper is a more affordable option compared to other reverse hypers, providing you with the opportunity to train on a Westside Barbell reverse hyper without breaking the bank. Additionally, the Scout Hyper takes up less floor space, making it a great choice for those with limited space, such as garage gyms, offices, or private gyms that want more reverse hypers for their clientele.

Why You Should Perform Reverse Hypers on the Scout Hyper

If you're looking to boost your athletic performance and stay at the top of your game for longer, then incorporating reverse hypers on the Scout Hyper into your workout routine is an excellent option. The Scout Hyper is particularly beneficial as it not only strengthens your posterior chain, but also helps you traction out your spine throughout the exercise. This is especially important for athletes who rely on strong posterior chains, as it effectively targets and builds the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back muscles, leading to improved hip extension and greater power output. By strengthening these critical muscle groups, you'll be better equipped to take on even the most challenging physical demands and succeed on the field or court.

For weekend warriors who spend most of their time sitting at a desk to professional athletes, the Scout Hyper provides an excellent solution to enhance their performance while keeping their bodies healthy. Overtraining can often cause athletes to feel beat up and sore. However, the Scout Hyper can deliver a therapeutic effect by effectively tracking out the spine and posterior hip, which makes it suitable for daily use. Tractioning the lumbar spine enhances nutrient supply to the intervertebral disc and stretching the paraspinal muscles helps to rehabilitate pinched nerves in the posterior chain.

Apart from building the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back muscles, the Scout Hyper can also be used for a variety of other exercises. To avoid accommodation, you can modify the exercise or add something new. Here are a few ways to rotate exercises differently on the Scout Hyper.

Does everyone need a Scout Hyper?

Prior to the release of the Scout Hyper, there was no affordable and foldable Westside Barbell Reverse Hyper that could rival the efficiency of larger models. The Scout Hyper is an ideal choice for individuals who wish to obtain reverse hypers for their home gym or commercial facility. Both athletes and regular gym-goers can greatly benefit from using the Scout Hyper to enhance their strength, mitigate low back injuries and increase overall athletic performance.
