From principles to decisions

Understand Conjugate.
Apply it to your training.

A training week only makes sense when you understand what each part is there to do. Our focus is the reasoning behind the method and how that reasoning carries into training.

See how the system fits together

The role of maximal, dynamic, and repetition effort—and how the work connects across a week.

Choose exercises with a purpose

What a variation is meant to address, what carryover you are looking for, and when a choice needs to change.

Make sense of loading and adjustment

Look at the demands of the work, the person doing it, and the feedback that should guide your next decision.

Apply the method to your situation

Work through the effect of experience, sport, equipment, and available training time.

Topics and depth are shaped by the seminar and its audience.

Coaches and lifters

Bring your questions.

For coaches & gym owners

Build the reasoning you need to coach the person in front of you.

  • Connect exercise choices to the athlete’s needs.
  • Explain what you are asking someone to do and why.
  • Adapt the work to your setting, equipment, and group.

For lifters

Understand the decisions behind your own training.

  • See how your main lifts and assistance work fit together.
  • Ask better questions about exercise selection and progress.
  • Understand what to consider when your training needs to change.

Match the teaching to your needs

Tell us who you work with, what you want to understand, and where you need help applying it. That conversation shapes the instructor and the depth of the seminar.

Experience that fits your audience

Education for the people you coach.

We match the instructor to the people you train and the setting you work in. Our coaches bring experience from the populations they actively coach—not just familiarity with a topic.

Powerlifting

Understand the system for raw and equipped lifting. Our group includes competitive powerlifters and world-record holders.

Functional fitness

Apply the method in the context of CrossFit and HYROX training.

Tactical & first responders

Learn from coaches who actively train military, law enforcement, and firefighting populations and have worked within these settings.

Combat sports

Jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and MMA—with experience coaching combat-sport athletes, including world champions.

Field & team sports

Experience in professional lacrosse, including work with world champions, as well as football.

Your coaching environment

Experience across private facilities serving multiple disciplines, high school, collegiate, and NFL settings.

The planning conversation helps us match the relevant experience to your group.

Hosting, built around your audience

Start with a conversation.

01 / TELL US ABOUT YOUR GROUP

Send a short inquiry

Share your facility, audience, and what you want the seminar to help them understand.

02 / WORK THROUGH THE DETAILS

Have a planning call

We discuss experience, needs, equipment, and how deep the teaching should go.

03 / SHAPE THE SEMINAR

Match instructor & content

We use that context to plan the teaching and discuss the arrangements with you.

Future seminars

Tell us how you want to learn.

Bring Westside to your facility

What does your group need?

Bring Westside Barbell to your facility. We deliver seminars across the United States and internationally, with content tailored to your group.

Share your group and what you want to achieve. This starts a planning conversation—not a booking. We can discuss travel arrangements during the planning call.

Before you get started

Seminar questions, answered.

Do I need to be experienced with Conjugate?

No. Beginners and experienced coaches and lifters are welcome. Tell us where you are starting and what you want to understand.

Are Westside or online dates available now?

We’re collecting interest for future seminars. Dates and event details will be shared when available.

Can a hosted seminar focus on our group’s needs?

Yes. Start with an inquiry. The planning call helps us understand your audience and match the content, depth, and instructor.

Can the teaching fit my sport and experience?

Yes. Tell us who you coach or how you train, your experience with Conjugate, and the questions you need to work through. Hosted seminars are shaped through the planning conversation, including the instructor, content, and depth.

Who will teach the seminar?

Official Westside instructors include Tom Barry, Burley Hawk, Mac McFarland, Laura Phelps, Jason Gusic, and Tom’s personally selected representatives. Instructor arrangements depend on the seminar.

Does attending make me a certified coach?

Seminars and Westside’s coach certification pathway are separate. Seminar attendance does not itself confer certification.

Does an inquiry book a seminar?

No. A hosting inquiry starts the planning conversation. Joining the interest list does not reserve a place.
