Level 1: Digital Internship (Theory-Based) is the starting point of the official Westside Coach Pathway—your first step toward becoming a Westside Barbell Certified Conjugate Coach. Learn how we think, how we make decisions, and how we coach so you can carry forward the culture and methods built by Louie Simmons.
Why This Course
- First step in the Westside Coach Pathway: Level 1 Digital Internship → Level 2 Video Practical → Level 3 Conjugate Certificate Exam.
- Conjugate is decision-making: Learn how to choose the right tool based on the goal—not a cookie-cutter list.
- Culture is the method: “Results first, excuses last.” Intensity, consistency, and accountability aren’t optional.
What You’ll Learn
- Conjugate thinking & decision-making: Treat exercises as tools. Choose the right tool based on the goal, not a cookie-cutter list.
- Real-time coaching process: Watch the lift, ask the right questions, and adjust to the person in front of you.
- Build a high-performance culture: “Iron sharpens iron” create the mix of competition and support that drives PRs.
- Programming from long plan to weekly plan: Connect big-picture objectives to week-to-week training.
- KPIs that actually guide training: Set and track key performance indicators to inform timely changes.
- Feedback loops that work: Coach–athlete communication that keeps intent high and training on track.
- Adaptation under constraints: Injuries, limited equipment, and schedule changes maintain direction without losing intent.
Important: Level 1 Is Theory-Based
Level 1 is designed to give you the framework, language, and decision rules that make Conjugate work. If you want deeper practical application through video-based coaching and execution, that is the focus of Level 2: Video Practical Mentorship.

FAQ
Does Level 1 make me a Westside Barbell Certified Conjugate Coach?
No. Level 1 is the theory-based foundation of the Westside Coach Pathway. Certification is earned through the full pathway: Level 1 (Digital Internship) → Level 2 (Video Practical Mentorship) → Level 3 (Conjugate Certificate Exam).
Is Level 1 practical or hands-on coaching?
Level 1 is primarily theory and decision-making—how to choose the right tool, what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to adjust training with intent. The deeper practical application through video-based coaching and execution is emphasized in Level 2: Video Practical Mentorship.
Is this a cookie-cutter program?
No. It’s a process. Every training session is an assessment. You’ll learn to observe, question, and adjust based on the lifter and the goal.
What if my athletes have injuries, limited equipment, or schedule changes?
You’ll learn how to maintain intent and direction under real-world constraints without losing sight of progress.
What will I take back to my gym?
A practical framework for programming (long-term to weekly), KPIs that guide choices, effective feedback loops, and a culture blueprint rooted in Louie’s non-negotiables.
