For decades the record board at Westside Barbell was the hardest wall in strength sport to get your name on. Louie Simmons built a gym where the standard was never participation. It was 800 pound squats, 600 pound benches, and totals most lifters never see. The board hung on the wall in Columbus, Ohio, and every member who walked in understood the deal. Beat a number or keep training.

These are the final club records of the Westside Barbell Powerlifting Club, preserved exactly as they stood in December 2021, shortly before Louie passed. They will never be updated. Dave Hoff totaled 3,014 and squatted 1,235. Chris Spegal pulled 915. Behind those marks stand more than a hundred lifters who earned a place on this wall, from Chuck Vogelpohl and George Halbert to Laura Phelps Sweatt and Amy Weisberger.

The club is no more, the legacy is still here. This gym remains the hub of our powerlifting education, and we continue to work with powerlifters on the same floor where these numbers were built. The system behind the board is taught in Conjugate Method 101 and our coach certification, and Louie's full story lives on the Louie Simmons legacy page. Search the board, work through the clubs lift by lift, and see what the strongest team ever assembled left behind.

Questions People Ask

What is the Westside Barbell record board?

The record board lists every member of the Westside Barbell Powerlifting Club who squatted 800 pounds or more, benched 600 or more, deadlifted 800 or more, or totaled 2,000 or more, along with the club's Top 10 lifts ranked by coefficient. This page preserves the board exactly as it stood in December 2021.

What was the biggest squat in Westside Barbell history?

Dave Hoff squatted 1,235 pounds at 308, the biggest squat on the final board. AJ Roberts squatted 1,205 at 308. Two men made the 1200 Club, and 105 members squatted 800 or more.

What was the biggest bench press at Westside Barbell?

Dave Hoff benched 1,015 pounds at 308, the only member of the 1000 Club. Four more lifters benched 900 or better.

What was the biggest deadlift at Westside Barbell?

Chris Spegal pulled 915 pounds. Jake Norman and Josh Conley each pulled 900. In a gym built on the squat and the bench, 31 members still deadlifted 800 or more.

What is the biggest total ever posted at Westside Barbell?

Dave Hoff totaled 3,014 pounds at 308, the biggest total in Westside Barbell history. His 3,005 at 275 is second on the board. No other member reached 3,000.

Why are the Westside Barbell club records closed?

Louie Simmons died in March 2022, and the competitive powerlifting club he built closed its books with him. Westside Barbell preserved the club records exactly as they stood. Nothing will be added and nothing will be removed.

How many lifters made the final record board?

The final board holds 105 squats of 800 pounds or more, 99 benches of at least 600, 31 deadlifts of 800 or more, 96 totals of 2,000 or more, and 110 members who earned Elite status.

The board is closed. The numbers stand.
