Westside Weekly - Training at 90%

Intro / Weekly Recap
It’s business as usual here at Westside: We’re in the midst of a new dynamic effort wave, dialing in the speed strength side of our program. Some athletes are gearing up for upcoming matches and fights, others are busy with their in-season schedules, and a few are in the off-season refining the basics. Wherever they stand in the yearly cycle, everyone is laser-focused on being ready when the next big opportunity knocks.

Athlete Updates & Highlights
Dante Leon Title Fight: On May 2 on Amazon Prime, Dante Leon will challenge Tye Ruotolo for the ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Title at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. It’s their third showdown (they’re 1–1 so far), so expect a technical clash to settle the score once and for all.
Justin Inacio’s Standout Season: Justin continues to lead the league in faceoffs, proving that explosive power and precise fundamentals pay off. His success underscores how consistent skill work paired with targeted strength training can dominate any stat sheet.
Joshua “Flyin Hawaiian” Perriera Joins ONE FC: Joshua is set to make his promotional debut in March, bringing Westside grit to one of the biggest stages in combat sports. Keep an eye on how his Conjugate-based routine translates under the bright lights of a major promotion.
Lance Palmer Signs With Global Fight League (GFL): Lance steps into a league that shares 50% of event revenue with athletes and prioritizes health, wellness, and retirement benefits. We’re excited to see how he applies Westside principles in an organization that truly values longevity.
Myles Robinson & Josiah Harrell: Both Myles and Josiah are gearing up for fights in March and April. They’re honing their dynamic efforts and accessory work to ensure every rep contributes to peak performance.
Best Gym Lifts: This week’s max effort sessions included deadlifts from Pin 3 against mini bands and bench presses with two sets of chains—ideal for building stability and lockout strength. The highlight came from Josiah Harrell, who tore two calluses at 405 lb yet pushed through to deadlift 495 lb for a new PR—ouch.

Louie Simmon's Corner (Legacy Spotlight)
Louie often emphasized training at around 90% of your best—not constantly chasing PRs, but rather building a strong, consistent foundation of top-level effort. This week, we’ve realigned our approach to ensure both our training values and each athlete’s mindset reflect Louie’s vision of “being trainable.”
Check out the video below for a deeper look at that philosophy. It was a complete game-changer in how we design programs, especially for athletes who compete year-round or are simply waiting for their chance to shine.
